Every year during Operation Rice Bowl time (Lent), our school has what is called a "service auction." This year was the 6th Annual. Faculty and staff put something up for sale, anyone can bid on it, and after a week, the highest bidder gets the item. All the money goes to the Rice Bowl.
Archbishop Murphy is the #1 Rice Bowl fundraising school in the whole country! Last year we raised over $25,000. This year, because of some other stuff, we "only" raised $6,500 or so. Still a good chunk of change.
The service auction this year raised about $4,075. Some people baked homemade pies, banana bread, cookies... some teachers sold their parking spot for the rest of the school year... one gal planted pots with spring flowers... the English teacher wrote an ode to the winning student.
Me... I offered up my coconut cupcakes. 2 dozen fresh, yummy cupcakes. The girl got them for $35. What a steal! And the Rice Bowl is $35 richer.
