Cafe Veloce

There's a place on the Eastside to visit again. Our roofer, Valentine Roofing, recommended this place so we went the other night.

[Yes, we decided on the roof. We have to get it done this summer -- there is a leak in the living room :-(  Connor Valentine received great recommendations and it made it easy when one roofing company made an appointment with us and never came or called (WHY do contractors do that??) and another company came for the appointment, but has never followed up. That project will start next week.]

Anyway, the night of Connor's visit to give an estimate, he gave us all the time we needed to ask our questions, thus making him late to a birthday party at Cafe Veloce. For those of you who know Kirkland, it is in the old Underhill's space, just down from Evergreen Hospital. He followed up with an email the next day giving us the address of the restaurant.

We found ourselves in that area, and decided to see what all the fuss was about.

We were quickly seated in a motorcycle-decorated dining room. There were a number of tables, but the place wasn't too busy... until we'd been there a bit, and pretty soon it was full of diners. (I bet being so close to the hospital doesn't hurt!)

First up, we ordered the antipasto plate.
Wine cured salami, smoked ham, pepperoni, olives, tomato, artichokes and specialty cheeses served with vinaigrette dressing for dipping.

Planning ahead for lunch the rest of the week, we also ordered a pasta dish and a pizza. Lots of leftovers!

The pasta was great: called "GINO," it had baby clams and Italian sausage in a pesto tomato sauce with onions, mushrooms, green peppers and garlic, served on spaghetti, topped with parmesan and fresh basil. It was hearty and delicious.

The pizza was the "VELOCE SPECIAL," smoked ham, Italian sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, black olives, green peppers and sliced roma tomatoes, topped with mozzarella and fontina, and marinara. It was really good!
Now, this isn't the Canlis or anything, but it was great for a pizza place, and we'd definitely go back!  Give it a try.  Oh, one more thing. Don't wear white!  We had to do laundry when we got home from the little red spots on our white shirts. That has nothing to do with the restaurant -- just our sloppy eating. :-/

  1. I ate there years ago with a client from Evergreen Hospital. I have NO recollection of the food, but maybe should stop in for a lunch bite after a meeting sometime. The food looks yummy.

  2. Those tomatoes don't look very ripe, though, and this is summertime! They're certainly not ripened in the sunny, hot fields in Sicily.
