After a long Saturday at work last weekend, B and I decided to pop down to Seattle to try a restaurant a co-worker had told him about that we had not yet visited... Assaggio, located on 4th Ave, just north of Lola and across from Dahlia Lounge.
(FYI -- I didn't take any photos during this meal.)
Restaurant owner Mauro Golmarvi was at the door when we arrived, greeting customers. Throughout the evening, he could be seen doing it all -- seating and checking on customers, delivering food, opening wine and even clearing tables. He stopped by our table several times to check on us, and when he found out that B is at Boeing, he shook our hands and gave me a beso on both cheeks.
We began our meal with Prosecco Bellinis. A Bellini is a cocktail that originated in Venice. It is a mixture of sparkling wine (traditionally Prosecco) and peach purée often served at celebrations. It is one of Italy's most popular cocktails. We also ordered a bowl of Olivi Assortiti (mixed olives).
Next up for me was an Insalata di Francesca (Field greens, apples, pears, gorgonzola, candied pistachios, vinaigrette). B ordered Brodetto (Mixed seafood saffron cream soup).
For the main dish, B ordered Vitello Saltimbocca (Sautéed veal, prosciutto, sage, white wine & butter sauce), and I ordered the Risotto Special with mushrooms, asparagus and beef tenderloin.
To finish it all off, we ordered coffee, profiteroles (cream puffs with chocolate and raspberry), and gelato (coconut and chocolate/hazelnut).
We found the food to be delicious and the service was good, though the restaurant was a little noisy (we sat in the middle of the main room). We will definitely try the place again.
Check out their blog.
